About the Show
Bunkbeds, Céilís, rain gear, 5 minute showers and absolutely NO Béarla!
Sound familiar? Every year across the country thousands of kids are packed off to the Gaeltacht with the hope of advancing their grasp of Irish from the basics of "An bhfuil cead agam dul go dtí an leithreas?" They¹ve put up with the rules, the arduous rain-soaked walks and the fish fingers and waffles for long enough, now it¹s time for revenge!
Last July, Mind the Gap Films, sent ten adults, nominated by their children, to spend a week at one of Ireland¹s strictest Irish college¹s, Coláiste na bhFiann, Ros Muc, in the heart of the Gaeltacht. Living exactly as the other students attending the Coláiste at the time, our ten had to endure the rules, the curfews and the ban on cigarettes and alcohol, all under the watchful eye of the Bean an Tí and the Cinnire.
Desperately trying to absorb a cúpla focail to get them through the week, our ten do NOT take the challenge in their stride. Will they make it through a week of tears and tantrums, without breaking the rules or breaking out?!
How long before the Coláiste decide they need to pack their bags? An Bhfuil Cead Agam is a four part series which will air on RTÉ during Seachtain na Gaeilge '09 on Monday, 9th, Wednesday 11th, Friday 13th and Monday 16th of March at 7.30pm on RTÉ One. Don't miss it!
