About the House

Programme 5

Rathmines, Co. Dublin

Tony and Joan Hennessy are downsizing from their large home in Ranelagh to a smaller house in the south of the city. The Hennessys have always enjoyed living close to the city centre so they have opted for a two up two down house in Rathmines with a long garden at the back and a large garage.

Although the house was habitable when they bought it, Tony and Joan have decided to give it a complete upgrade and to bring it to the modern standards that will make living there much more comfortable. They are also adding an extension at the back to create more space and bring in more light. Lucky for them, their son Derek is an architect and is willing to take over the whole project!

Initially  Derek estimated that it would only take a couple of months to complete the job, however as time goes on, progress looks like it is slowing down and the Irish weather isn’t helping either!

Also this week, Duncan visits Anne Sullivan who lived with radon in her home for years without realizing. Duncan talks to a radon expert to investigate how serious  this problem is in Ireland.
