About the House

Programme 11

The last time Duncan was with Maggo and Graeme in Greenane, Co Wicklow they were having big problems with their self build. They were half way through the build and already way over budget. They did not have a building schedule and without any warning their tradesman left the site...

This week Duncan travels down to Greenane again to see how Maggo is coping with project managing the build. Graeme and Maggo plan to wrap a new house around an existing river cottage to create 3 new bedrooms, a large living room and a kitchen with a large deck overlooking the beautiful river and valley.
Maggo’s tradesmen have since arrived back on site to finish the job but they left her with a big problem! The walls are showing cracks and before Maggo can move on to the next job she needs to make sure that the walls are structurally sound.
They are insulating the inside walls with natural hemp. The heating system gets installed and outside a crew are working hard to finish the decking. The build is moving along slowly but surely. But when will it be finished?

In Dungloe Angie visits a beautiful house that is designed to cope with the Donegal weather condition. Designed to fit in with its surrounding landscape, this house also has a stunning interior. Using locally sourced scotts pine wood, the architects have achieved an interior that is both comfortable and contemporary.

Tania also travels up to Donegal to see how the Meehan's are getting on. With great effort the whole family is trying to save energy and reduce household bills. Will they succeed and get a good result? The energy experts Aodhan Macphaidin and Dr. Kirk Shanks deliver the final word.
