Renovation: Accessibility Project

This week on About the House, Duncan takes another trip to County Wexford to see how Mac and Assumpta are progressing with their self-build timber frame house in Kilrane. The couple are just about to have their Velux windows fitted, so we see their house being injected with insulation made from recycles newspaper. Mac concentrates on sticking to the building schedule while Assumpta struggles to keep the building site in order.

Also this week on About the House, we meet Léan Kennedy and her boyfriend Stuart who are currently looking to buy a house in county Waterford. However buying a house is not as straight forward for Léan as it is for many people because she is visually impaired.

Like most people, Léan wants her new house to be beautiful, however it is also crucial that the house includes excellent design principles that will make it completely accessible for Léan. We follow this couple as they visit 3 different houses in county Waterford in hope of finding the perfect home.

Meanwhile Angie visits a stunning, contemporary house in the beautiful Drumore West in County Sligo. Using three fundamental elements from the West of Ireland - slate, stone and white walls - architect Neil, Burke Kennedy was inspired by the simple style of Italian and Portuguese architecture.
