On news2day we have reported on many of the Green School’s Travel Programme initiatives such as Scoot on Wednesday and Walk on Wednesday.
This week their travel awards took place and Orla went to the ceremony to see which schools took home the top prizes.
They’re being awarded in a number of categories in the green schools travel awards such as walking, bus or public transport and park and stride. The programme aims to encourage students and parents to ‘think green’ in how they get to school.
Six schools have been awarded their green flag already and today were celebrated for continuing their good work. The other six are active schools currently working toward their green flag.
Two groups also come out on top in each category as Ireland’s top sustainable travel schools of the year. One from Kildare: Scoil Chearbhaill Uì Dhálaigh and one from Dublin: St Colmcille’s Senior National School.
The green schools travel programme are now looking for schools to take part next year, so if you think you can travel green, check out the website www.greenschoolsireland.org for more information.
