Two Wexford Schools Celebrate Europe Day

You may remember earlier in the term we reported on one Dublin school getting their Blue Star Flag.

They earned that flag by taking part in the Blue Star Programme, a European Movement Ireland initiative for primary schools to introduce participants to all aspects of the EU.

Today (May the ninth) is Europe Day and two small schools came together in Wexford to celebrate all things European.

Scoil Eoin Basite Galbally and Boolavogue National School have just 136 pupils between them but they represented more than 25 European countries.

As part of the Blue Star Programme 42 students from both schools ran stalls featuring foods, models of buildings, facts and even traditional clothing from their chosen countries.

Their younger school mates went on a scavenger hunt through the stalls finding out European facts.

The two schools, along with teachers, parents and friends also took part in a ‘Handshake for Europe’ which symbolises that although we’re all different, we’re really the very same.
