Get Behind The Ireland Women's Rugby Team!

February 26 2013

Two weeks ago, Ireland Womens rugby star Marie Louise Reilly visited the loft to chat about the team’s historic 25-0 win over England in the Six Nations – the first time since the women’s national team was founded in 1993 that they had triumphed over England!

Over the weekend, Ireland had even MORE to celebrate thanks to the women’s rugby team - yet again they made history as they beat Scotland 30-3 in Glasgow to win the Triple Crown on Saturday! Today, live on the show, Joy Neville & Gillian Burke took a break from training to chat to us on Skype and tell us all about the match, and what winning the Triple Crown means to them and the team.

(The Triple Crown is an honour contested annually by the four national teams of the British Isles who compete within the Six Nations Championship: England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales… If any one of those four teams wins all of its games against the other three, then they win the Triple Crown!)

But they’re not finished yet. Oh no, not by a LONG shot. Now, the Irish Womens rugby team have the Six Nations championship firmly in their sights – AND, if they can manage to win both of their remaining games against France and Italy, they COULD win it in Grand Slam style having beaten every other team!

But they need our help… That’s why we want EVERYONE to get behind Ireland as they take on France in their last home match of the tournament on Friday 8th March, in Ashbourne Rugby Club Co. Meath, at 7:30PM. COME ON YOU GIRLS IN GREEN!
