1 of 1 A big, dirty jigsaw of Irish life
A big, dirty jigsaw of Irish life

When A Lazarus Soul unleashed the excellent 'A Graveyard of Burnt Out Cars' on the everything-is-great Ireland of 2007 they sounded like they were auditioning for the role of enemies of the happy-clappy state. Four years later, they could be considered the men of the hour.

Granted, an opening lyric of "You know it's only getting worse" is not the best way to face into the rest of 2011, but this record feels like one that will have listeners' backs through the lean times ahead.

While black-as-night keyboards and programming are now more prominent than the guitars, the Lazarus experience remains as intense and unsettling.

This is a big, dirty jigsaw of Irish life, with avarice, crime and isolation interlocking. The only missing piece is you.
