Stockholm Records – 2001 – 55 minutes

Freed of the day job demands of The Cardigans, singer Nina Persson has got together her friends, headed into a studio and re-emerged as A Camp.

Those expecting the jaunty pop of her former incarnation would be well advised to listen elsewhere – with her watch wound on to the small hours, Persson unveils one low key love song after another. Having guested on the recent Sparklehorse album 'It's a Wonderful Life', 'Horse mainman Mark Linkous returns the compliment by producing some of the finest work of the singer's career, including the country stride of 'I Can't Buy You' and the sad strum of 'Algebra'.

At 14 tracks and 55 minutes, A Camp could do without the heavy guitars of 'Hard as a Stone' and 'The Oddness of the Lord', but perhaps they're the sound of Persson gearing up for her rock album...now there's a prospect.
