Robert Plant releases his new album Lullaby and . . . The Ceaseless Roar on September 5 and RTÉ TEN has an exclusive short film of Plant discussing the album's genesis and clips of some of the new songs. Watch it here.
Featuring excerpts from new tracks and interviews with Plant, who turned 66 yesterday, and members of his band The Sensational Space Shifters, the film captures the Led Zeppelin man in his creative element.
Lullaby and . . . The Ceaseless Roar finds Plant and co locked into deep grooves of psychedelic drum loops, samples, exotic instrumentation, tablas and electronics.
The album is described as a return to "his native England and a rediscovery - and a reappraisal - of himself as an artist and songwriter."
"In the beginnings of my efforts to write songs, when I first met Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, I was just trying to join in with the times and what was going on and use what I'd learned from Dion and Howlin' Wolf," Plant says.
"Now I have a whole index, an absolute rainbow, of influences. I need to talk about what's going on in my life, in my lap, speaking from my experience; it's far more honest and much more appropriate."
