Benedict Cumberbatch to play evil tiger Shere Khan in the Jungle Book: Origins

It has been confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as the villainous Shere Khan in Warner Bros.' Jungle Book: Origins. 

Cumberbatch is the first lead voice announced for the movie which is will be a directorial debut for Andy Serkis and is expected to hit cinema in October 2016. 

The 38-year-old Sherlock star will voice the evil tiger in the eagerly awaited Warner Bros' production which will be released a year after Disney puts outs its jungle book offering. The Warner Bros.' version is expected to be much darker and more live-action oriented.

It is also been reported that Cumberbatch, who is up for an Emmy next week for Sherlock, is set to reprise his role as the detective in the eponymous BBC series. 

The hit detective drama, which also features Martin Freeman as Sherlock's sidekick, Watson, will return to BBC One in 2015.

The BBC said that the one-off episode, which is due to be filmed in January 2015, promises to be ''one of the biggest mysteries yet''.

The episode will be followed by a three-part fourth series of Sherlock, which will film later in the year.
