EastEnders star Declan Bennett has said that fans are set to see plenty of twists involving his character, Charlie Cotton, but that Dot's (June Brown) grandson should not be written off by viewers as a villain.
In an interview with All About Soap, the actor said: "I think Charlie is ultimately heading towards being a goodie, with Dot's best interests at heart."
He continued: "When he first came on the scene, everyone's assumption was that because he was the spawn of Nick Cotton he would be bad.
"And he was up to something dodgy - people were wondering why he didn't want the coffin open at the wake. So they immediately jumped to the conclusion he was a bad guy."
Bennett added: "Now the storyline is starting to develop, and Charlie has been around Dot for a long time, so their relationship is beginning to blossom. Dot is a pretty smart woman - she's not stupid."
When asked about Charlie's secrets, he replied: "Let's say there is a handful. What is going on with Charlie has a knock-on effect, and it's creating more secrets than he ever imagined."
