In 1994 The Point Theatre the crowds erupted with joy as they were stunned and amazed by Jean Butler and Michael Flatley performing at the interval of Eurovision. It had never been seen before. Irish dancing was suddenly seductive, captivating and, most of all, entertaining.
Producer and Director and husband and wife duo Moya Doherty and John McColgan saw an opportunity and transformed the 7 minute interval piece into the full-length stage production. It has been performed in New York, Belfast and Cork and it has packed theatres throughout North America, Oceania, Asia, Europe, South Africa and, most recently, South America.
To celebrate 20 years of the production of Riverdance, a special piece called 'Anna Livia' has been added and the producers have introduced new costumes to mark the celebration.
The production is currently running in the Gaeity until the 31st of August. Riverdance is seen as a unique Irish success story that has been performed for the likes of Michelle Obama, The Queen, and the The Clinton family. It has won numerous international awards throughout it's 20 year history and is set to have them dancing in the aisles for years to come.
