ITV has ordered a full season of sitcom The Delivery Man following a successful pilot.

BAFTA winner Darren Boyd and former Fair City actress Aisling Bea will star in the comedy about a policeman who decides to become a midwife.

The new six-episode series follows a pilot episode filmed earlier this year, which also starred Fay Ripley, Alex Macqueen and Dominic Coleman.

Written by Green Wing's Robert Harley and James Henry, the sitcom is expected to air on ITV in mid-2015.

Further casting details are expected to be announced in the coming months, ahead of recording, which begins in October.

Darren Boyd is best known for his roles in Sky1's Spy (for which he won a BAFTA) and for playing John Cleese in the drama Holy Flying Circus. He also appeared in an episode of HBO's Veep.

Aisling Bea appeared as Cliodhna Norris in RTÉ One soap Fair City in 2009 and has more recently won several awards as a stand-up.
