"He knows why The Mummy has fascinated us for so long and how to bring that into an inventive, incredible new adventure. It became obvious that he is the perfect choice to be not only one of the narrative engineers of this new vision but its director as well."
Plot details for the film are being kept under wraps, but it is understood that the new movie is set in the present day and will have fall into the action-adventure genre with horror elements.
The Mummy is the first of a series of Universal film franchises scheduled to undergo a reboot, and will be released in April 2016.
