Dolly Parton's Jolene has sold 214,279 digital copies in the UK since her appearance at the Glastonbury Festival in late June.

“It's always a great honour for anybody to record your songs, and oddly enough,.Jolene is a song that's been recorded more than any other song I've ever written,“ the country legend told The Guardian.

“More than I Will Always Love You or any of those other songs. It's always curious to see how people interpret your songs. Some people say: "Ooh, I didn't like that version," but I say: "Well, I like every version, because it's amazing how people feel and hear the songs so differently."

As to the frequent ‘murdering’ of Jolene in karaoke versions, Parton says: “People like to get in there and sing it. But yeah, I have seen my songs slaughtered pretty good, by some of my drunk friends. Hahaha. But it's always fun. It's always good.”

First released as a single in October 1973, the song was the title track of her album of the same name. Rolling Stone magazine has since ranked it at 219 in their 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
