The Wire star Dominic West leads a great cast in a new Showtime drama series called The Affair.
West stars as a married teacher named Noah who ends up having a fling with a waitress (Ruth Wilson, Luther) while on holiday with his family in the Hamptons.
His infatuation with the waitress soon takes him over, and it becomes increasingly likely that either his wife (Maura Tierney, ER) or his lover's husband (Joshua Jackson, Fringe) will discover the infidelity.
The Affair was created by In Treatment's Hagai Levi and Sarah Treem of House of Cards, while Showtime is home to shows such as Nurse Jackie, Dexter, Ray Donovan and Homeland.
"When you're having an affair, you don't even have access to what your lover is experiencing. You're not around; there's this whole other world that they inhabit that you never get to see," said Treem at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Friday (July 18).
"So for the characters, that seemed to be a friction situation to put them in if you really wanted to tell a story from two perspectives and play around with how differently people had experienced the same situation."
The Affair is expected to premiere in October. Here's the first trailer:
