Veteran broacaster Bill O'Herlihy steps away from the mic tonight after hosting The World Cup Final after a television career spanning six decades. Take a look back on the early days of his career with this clip from RTÉ Archives.

The gentlemanly Corkman is best known as a sports presenter but he began his career in news and current affairs. Following stints with both the Cork Examiner and the Evening Echo, his broadcasting career started with local soccer reports for Radió Éireann in Cork.
