Bono has been considering making the transition into acting, but daughter Eve Hewson advised him to "stick to the day job".

In an interview with W magazine, the 23-year-old actress said that her rocker dad was eyeing up a role in a new movie, and has already been lining up some famous co-stars.

She said: "My dad wants to be an actor now. He’s like, 'What do you think of me being in a movie with Beyoncé?'  And I said, 'Stick to your day job!'"

Hewson is currently promoting her latest role as a nurse in the Cinemax mini-series The Knick.

She stars alongside Clive Owen in the show, which is set in early 20th century New York City, in the flailing Knickerbocker Hospital.

Hewson said of the show, which is directed by Steven Soderbergh: "I walked onto the set and thought, 'Is this actually happening?"

The Irish star had to adapt an American accent for the role and also study the basics of 20th century medicine.
