Dublin Zoo has announced the birth of two female meerkat pups.

The pups were born at the end of May, but meerkat parents keep their young hidden in burrows for the first few weeks of their lives.

Eddie O'Brien, Team Leader at Dublin Zoo, said: "We are delighted with the arrival of the pups.

"Both pups are doing very well. They are still feeding from their mother and recently they have also started eating solids. As carnivores they eat insects and mice."
