His numerous Irish fans will be happy to hear that legendary singer-songwriter Richard Thompson is releasing 14 acoustic versions of his classic songs.
The new collection, entitled Acoustic Classics features 14 tracks culled from his 40 years in music. The album contains ``reimagined and refined’’ versions of songs like I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight, Dimming of the Day, 1952 Vincent Black Lighting and the particularly beautiful Beeswing, which Christy Moore has covered. The album is released on Beeswing / Proper, on July 14.
Thompson’s acoustic shows have evolved in tandem with his regular band tours. “I really wanted to have something that would reflect the acoustic shows,” Richard explains, “But we didn’t have anything like that. Just some old, slightly scratchy recordings of solo sets that I wasn’t really happy with.”
Thompson was named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of all time.
The recipient of a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, Mojo’s Les Paul Award, Thompson was recently honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting by the Americana Music Association. There is a solo tour of the UK about to start soon.
