It has been confirmed that Patsy Byrne, who starred in the second series of Rowan Atikinson's historical comedy, died last Thursday.

Patsy Byrne, the actress best known for playing Nursie in the Blackadder television series, has died at 80.

Denville Hall, a care home for elderly actors in north-west London, confirmed she died on June 17.

The official Blackadder Facebook page has a post paying tribute to the late actress - who died less than a month after her co-star Rik Mayall - describing her as an "amazing" talent.

The Facebook post reads: "Very saddened to hear that Blackadder has lost another amazing actor.

"RIP Patsy Byrne AKA Nursie AKA Bernard. You and Flashheart can flirt for an eternity now."

Her other credits included Holby City and Claudius. She was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and studied drama at Rose Buford College in Kent.
