Meryl Streep and daughter set to play in comedy

Meryl Streep and daughter Mamie Gummer are expected to play a mother and daughter in Jonathan Demme’s Ricki and the Flash.

According to The Wrap, Streep  plays thesinger, Ricki, whose  fierce ambition has alienated her from her family, but she is about to try and set things right. Gummer is reportedly in talks to join the cast as Ricki's daughter Julie.

Kevin Kline is in negotiations to play the rocker's tolerant ex-husband Pete, according to The Wrap.

The Diablo Cody-penned story centres around Pete’s request to Ricki to travel to Chicago, where their daughter Julie has just experienced a traumatic divorce.

Streep and her daughter appeared together in The Homesman, Tommy Lee Jones' western, which premiered at Cannes this year. When Gummer was a child, they worked together in the 1986 Mike Nichols comedy drama Heartburn. Streep and Kline starred together in Sophie's Choice, for which the former won her first best actress Oscar.

30-year old Mamie Gummer came to fame through roles in the US television series John Adams, The Big C and The Good Wife. She has also appeared in the films, Side Effects, Taking Woodstock and The Hoax, .

Streep will play legendary opera diva Maria Callas in a film version of Terrence McNally's Tony-winning play Master Class for HBO and director Nichols, according to Page Six.
