Crime and period drama Boardwalk Empire will jump forward seven years for the final season of the show.

Michael K Williams, who plays Chalky White, has revealed that the show will be set during the Great Depression for the last season of the hugely popular HBO show.

Speaking to Den of the Geek Williams said: "The storyline has jumped seven years [into the future], which is why I have the beard now.

"The Depression has set in. The days of the shiny shoes and fancy suits are long gone."

Travis Tope has joined the cast which has been led by Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, Kelly Macdonald and Michael Shannon over the seasons.

Boardwalk Empire will return for its fifth and final season this autumn on Sky Atlantic.
