The animation news just keeps on coming as DreamWorks announce that they have acquired the rights to Felix the Cat.
According to The Wrap, CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said his company will turn the silent film era cartoon character into "one of the most desired fashion brands in the world".
Felix, egarded as one of the great cartoon characters, first appeared in film shorts and comic strips in 1919. He has had more than nine lives, having resurfaced in various TV shows and movies ever since.
"Felix really goes beyond evergreen status and rises to something even more uncommon, as he is a true icon," Katzenberg said during a speech at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.
"We plan to make him one of the most desired fashion brands in the world."
Felix joins DreamWorks Animation's growing stable of classic brands. The company bought the rights to characters such as Casper the Friendly Ghost, Lassie and The Lone Ranger when it acquired Classic Media in 2012.
