The Smashing Pumpkins drummer Mike Byrne has left the band.

He joined the group in 2009 replacing original band member Jimmy Chamberlin.

Speaking about 24-year-old's Byrne's departure, Billy Corgan told Music Radar: "Let's just say that Mike, like Elvis, has left the building."

It was recently revealed that the band have been working on new tracks with Mötley Crüe star Tommy Lee.

Lee will play drums on nine new songs on the band's upcoming album Monuments To An Elegy, and recently told Billboard: "I think he (Corgan) has probably the best record he's ever written. These are, like, epic, goose-bump songs."
