True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has said that all the casting rumours he has seen are false, adding that he has a "secret list".

Hollywood stars from Jessica Chastain to Brad Pitt have been linked to roles in the second season of the hit show, but Pizzolatto has confirmed that no lead roles have been cast, and that he is the only person who knows who is on the cards to star.

He told The Calgary Herald: "Literally not a single rumour about casting that has been printed anywhere has any truth to it whatsoever.

"I mean, literally. I've seen entertainment reporters say, 'My sources say...'. There are no sources. There's me and two other guys and they don't even know what I'm doing."

Pizzolatto continued: "I've talked to one person about it, possibly, and that has been it. We haven't cast anybody. I have a secret list and that's it."

He added that the cast may not be "female-led" as previously reported: "Again, it's a rumour with no basis in fact. There is a strong female character, but I wouldn't say it is female-led or anything like that."
