The former home of pop diva Whitney Houston has been bought by a "longtime" fan for $1.5 million (€1.1 million).

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Krauthamer, a 33-year-old emergency room doctor, bought the five bedroom, six bathroom residence in New Jersey.

The House was the site of Houston's 1992 wedding to Bobby Brown.

"She got, obviously, some bad press at times, but one thing that she was was a very kind and generous person," said Krauthamer of the singer, who died aged in 2012 after accidentally drowning in a hotel bath.

"She took care of the people that were closest to her, and that's something that’s always stuck in my mind."

Actress Angela Bassett, who played Tina Turner in What's Love Got To Do With It; will direct an upcoming TV movie about the troubled relationship between Houston and Brown.
