Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor and the woman who may hold Europe's economic fate in her hands, missed a phone-a-friend call on the German version of the big money game show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
The BBC reports that a political ally of Merkel phoned her twice during a charity edition of the show earlier this week, but got her voicemail.
Wolfgang Bosbach was stuck on an all-important €500,000 euro question about an East German washing machine and called Merkel because she grew up in the former communist East Germany.
Bosbach, a member of Ms Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats (CDU), was asked why the East German WM66 washing machine was legendary.
When asked if he wanted to phone a friend, he suggested the chancellor, explaining that "she's always happy to see me and hear my voice".
The correct answer was that many owners also used the washing machine to stew fruit. Bosbach bowed out of the show having won an impressive €125,000 to spend on his chosen charity.
At the end of the show, he received a text from Merkel saying: "Ok whatever it was, warm greetings from am."
