Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has released a teaser clip of his new series Sonic Highways in which he visits landmark recording studios across the USA as his band record their new album.

"It all started with the idea of recording in different studios all over the country," says Grohl of the eight-part HBO series. "Doing something to make it new. You can tie all of these people and places together with these 'sonic highways'. This is a musical map of America."

Each of the eight episodes will see the Foos travel to a different US city to write and record their eight album. They visit Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, DC and New York.

In each location, they visited a renowned studio to record a track for the album, which Grohl describes as "a love letter to the history of American music".

Sonic Highways follows last year's film Sound City, in which Grohl told the story of the legendary LA recording studio where Neil Young, Nirvana and Fleetwood Mac recorded key albums.

Foo Fighters revealed in January that sessions for their new album were underway. "I know what it sounds like and I honestly think the entire concept is really going to take people by surprise and it sounds nuts." Grohl has said.
