Riverdance has brought Irish dancing to a global audience

Riverdance has become a global success story – and it’s inspired three Irish lads to Irish dance their way around the world.

Iain McNamara, Chris McGrath and Kevin Cobbe went on a year-long trip abroad and documented their travels by filming themselves Irish dancing in every city they visited in order to 'spread some Irishness'.

They took in 23 countries over 2013 after quitting their jobs to travel the world, ranging from major cities such as London and Buenos Aires to sights such as Sydney Opera House and the Macchu Picchu Inca site in Peru.

The dancing trio also set up a website, www.thewirld.org, to track and record their progress while also encouraging more Irish people to 'instil Irishness abroad'.

According to the site’s home page, ‘The Wirld is an independent organisation devoted to promoting the nation of Ireland abroad . . . while having a whole lot of craic in the process.’
