Christine McVie has confirmed that she has rejoined Fleetwood Mac, adding that the band is currently writing songs for a new album.

The 70-year-old singer broke her silence on the matter after she collected the Lifetime Achievement accolade at today’s Ivor Novello Awards at Grosvenor House in London.

McVie said: “I would like to announce that I have rejoined Fleetwood Mac and we're in the process of writing a new album for next year.”

The singer also confirmed that the reunited Fleetwood Mac will embark on a world tour.

It’s quite a turnaround, even for a band with such a fractious past. Just two years ago, Mac’s Stevie Nicks said “there's no more a chance of [McVie returning] than an asteroid hitting the earth. She is done.”

McVie joined Fleetwood Mac on stage at the O2 Arena in London last September for a rendition of Don't Stop, the 1977 hit she wrote.

Before her return to the fold, McVie had not been a full-time member of the band for 16 years.
