Tom Hardy is attached to star in a big-screen adaptation of the book The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas.
Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty, The Hurt Locker) is on board to direct the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The book, which was the subject of a hotly contested bidding war to pick up the screen rights, tells the true story of Raisuddin Bhuiyan, a Bangladeshi who was working in a mini-mart when 9/11 happened.
Days after the terrorist attacks he was shot by Mark Stroman, who considered himself to be on a patriotic killing spree.
Bhuiyan survived the attack and years later, seeks to meet his shooter and forgive him.
No writer has yet been confirmed to adapt the book for the project.
Hardy currently stars in Steven Knight's drama Locke.
