Martin Clunes will play Sherlock Holmes' creator Arthur Conan Doyle in a new high-profile ITV drama.
The three-part series will be based on the novel Arthur & George by Julian Barnes. The screenplay will be written by Silent Witness and Waking the Dead writer Ed Whitmore.
ITV has also commissioned Line of Duty producer World Productions to make Code of a Killer, a two-part crime thriller which tells the story of the first major UK case that was solved using DNA profiling.
Written by Michael Crompton, Code of a Killer will be directed by James Strong (Broadchurch). Shameless star David Threlfall will play DCS David Barker, following his recent performance as Tommy Cooper in Not Like That, Like This.
In further ITV-related news, veteran British actress Charlotte Rampling has been added to the cast of acclaimed drama Broadchurch ahead of its second season.
Rampling - who recently featured in US drama, Dexter - will play a pivotal role in the new run of Broadchurch, which has retained its first season leads, David Tennant and Olivia Colman.
