Parents Maeve and Robin and the team at Dublin Zoo are celebrating the arrival of a male Rothschild giraffe, who was born at the Zoo last Wednesday, May 7.

The calf, who stands at 1.7m and weighs approximately 70kg, made his first outside appearance in Dublin Zoo's African Savanna on Monday May 12 and also met his father Robin this week.

Gerry Creighton, Operations Manager at Dublin Zoo, said: "The calf was born on Wednesday night in the giraffe house, with the other female members of the herd present. Maeve is an experienced mother and is very attentive towards the calf."

The new series of The Zoo continues on RTÉ One on Thursday night, May 15, at 7:00pm.
