Franco set for Tommy Wiseau role?

James Franco will play Tommy Wiseau in a film about the making of cult movie The Room, it has been reported.

The Oz the Great and Powerful star will play the eccentric filmmaker in a big-screen adaptation of Greg Sestro's book The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room.

Seth Rogen, who is producing the film, said that his close friend and collaborator Franco is in line to play Wiseau when appearing on the Opie & Anthony Show.

Rogen said: "This won't be an expensive movie. I saw [The Room] like 10 years ago for the first time, like right when it came out. I had just moved to LA and there would be billboards for it and ads and stuff like that.

"I remember I saw it with Jonah Hill actually, randomly, and then we became obsessed with it, like it was the greatest f***ing thing we had ever seen."

Franco wrote a review of The Disaster Artist book for Vice last year, saying of Wiseau: "Tommy Wiseau is undoubtedly a 'character,' a mysterious, self-made man whose origins and age are unknown, who somehow has enough money to spend $6 million dollars making and promoting his own film, buying all the equipment in the process.

"He looks like he is from Bram Stoker's Transylvania: ageless, muscled, sweet, and scary; he is part vampire, part Hollywood dreamer, part gangster, part Ed Wood, and super lonely."

2003's The Room has become a cult classic, garnering a legion of loyal fans who find the bizarre storytelling, Wiseau's central performance and technical errors hilarious.
