Lionsgate and Haim Saban will produce a new live action film based on Saban's 1993 television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
The new franchise announced today (May 7) is expected to re-imagine the Power Rangers as a group of high school kids with unusual super powers, and harnessing them as a group in order to save the world.
The original US series ran from 1993 to 1995 and spawned the feature-length film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, released in 1995.
“Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level,” Saban said.
“They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent."
