Sheeran: Wants a "bike-on" part in the new series of Love/Hate

Ed Sheeran says he was introduced to Love/Hate by Taylor Swift's roadies and now he wants a walk-on part in the new series of the Dublin gangland drama.

Speaking on Spin 1038 this morning (May 7), he said: "I'm obsessed with that show. It's my third time watching it now but the thing is, I wasn't introduced to it by Irish people - I was in America and they were all watching it. All the yanks on the Taylor Swift tour, all the crew, all the roadie crew.

"They were like, 'ah yeah man, we're watching this show called Love/Hate at the moment. Here's the DVD!' At first I said, yeah I'll check it out and they said it was made by RTÉ and I was like, all right . . . but then I watched it and it was incredible.

"I was instantly hooked in and I want Nidge to be my best mate. I can do a Nidge impression - it's just a lot of nodding and saying Trish."

Sheeran, who has extensive family ties with Ireland, added that his favourite character was John Boy who was played by Aidan Gillen. "I've actually said to my label that I'd like to be one of the little (bleep) on a bike with a balaclava just riding past. I'd love that! I might get them for a music video."

Sheeran was in Dublin to play Vicar Street as part of his three-gigs-in-day whistle stop tour of small Irish and UK venues in support of his new single Sing which is due out this Friday (May 9) and his new album X, which is released on June 20.
