Dakota Fanning will take the starring role in a big-screen adaptation of the book Brain On Fire.
The film, which is based on a memoir by Susannah Cahalan, will tell the story of her battle with a severe form of encephalitis.
Brain On Fire details her struggle with the disease, which caused violent seizures, and made her paranoid and delusional during a one-month stay in hospital.
According to Deadline, the actress will play the lead character of Cahalan in the film, which is set to be produced by Charlize Theron through her company Denver and Delilah.
The company have just wrapped filming on Dark Places, an adaptation of the novel by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.
Fanning next will be seen in the political drama Night Moves alongside Jesse Eisenberg, and this autumn she will be seen in The Last of Robin Hood and Franny.
