Damon Albarn took to the stage with a covers band for a surprise performance of Blur's Parklife in east London earlier this week. Have a look at Damon in action with The Gents here.

The band who play "modern pop songs in a cockney style" said they were getting ready to perform in The Red Lion pub in Leytonstone when Albarn walked in and started chatting to them.

"We were getting ready for a St George's Day knees-up on Wednesday night when in walked Mr Albarn. He asked what we were up to and said he'd be up for joining in a bit later," frontman Kristian Cockburn told Mail Online.

He added: "We play daft Cock-er-nee versions of silly pop songs and he was up for getting involved. When he came back to the pub later he joined us for a raucous rendition of Parklife and the whole place kicked off with everyone joining in for the choruses."

Albarn released his debut solo album Everyday Robots yesterday (April 25).
