William Hurt has reportedly quit the biopic Midnight Rider following a fatal accident on a railway track, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Camera assistant Sarah Jones lost her life in February after apparently being hit by flying debris during filming in Georgia. The US actor luckily escaped injury during the accident but was reported to have been very upset.

64-year-old Hurt had been playing the role of the legendary singer-songwriter and keyboardist Gregg Allman, who is the actual subject of the film.

Despite ongoing investigations into Jones's death, director Randall Miller is believed to be anxious to finish Midnight Rider.

Greg Allman is now 68 and is still actively touring and performing. In spite of his brother Duane Allman's early death in a motorcycle accident in 1971, and a year later, that of bass guitarist Berry Oakley - also in a motorcycle accident -  the Allmans continued to perform and record.
