It has been revealed that a sequel to the 1993 comedy hit Mrs Doubtfire is in the works.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Elf writer David Berenbaum is writing the script with director Chris Columbus and star Robin Williams also attached to the project for Fox 2000.
The original film told the tale of Williams’ character who was a struggling actor and divorced father trying to maintain his relationship with his three kids. To get daily contact he assumed the character of an elderly Scottish nanny, Euphegenia Doubtfire.
Williams picked up a Golden Globe for his performance and the movie was a huge international hit. It also starred Sally Field as Williams’ ex-wife and Pierce Brosnan as her new love interest.
A sequel has been on the cards since 2001 when actress and writer Bonnie Hunt was reported to be on board as a writer.
