Angela Lansbury officially becomes Dame

Legendary actress Angela Lansbury was officially made a Dame at Windsor Castle today.

The 88-year-old Murder She Wrote star was given the title by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of her ”services to drama and to charitable work and philanthropy."

Speaking about her achievement, Lansbury said: “It is a very proud day for me to be recognised by the country of my birth, and to meet the Queen under these circumstances is a rare and lovely occasion.”

Judi Dench and Maggie Smith are previous acting recipients of the great honour.
