Actress Edna Doré, who played Mo Butcher on EastEnders from 1988 to 1990, has died. She was 92.

The veteran actress' agent, Belinda Wright, told BBC News that she passed away in her sleep on Friday.

"I'd known her for more than 30 years and she was a wonderful actress and great fun," said Wright.

Born Edna Gorring, Doré began her career with the Entertainments National Service Association during World War Two and went on to work in repertory theatre, the West End and Britain's National Theatre.

Her other TV credits included The Bill, Casualty, Eyes Down and Open All Hours; her film credits included High Hopes and Nil by Mouth.

Paying tribute, Paul O'Grady, her co-star in Eyes Down, said: "I've never had so many laughs; she was just a bundle of fun. We got sent home from rehearsals one day for laughing. I won't tell you why but Edna said: 'In my 70 years in the business, I've never been sent out of rehearsals'."

O'Grady added: "She had a remarkable career. She might be gone but she's not forgotten by me. I had a ball with Edna, what a laugh she was."
