Psycho prequel Bates Motel has been given a season three renewal by US network A&E.
The first season of Bates Motel proved a ratings success for US network A&E, earning the network its highest-ever audience figures for a new show.
Its current second season – which is running this side of the Atlantic on UK satellite channel Universal – is just as popular, so a further ten-episode run has been commissioned.
Bates Motel stars the Emmy-nominated Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore as the infamous mother and son in an often bizarre, plot-twisting tale about Norman’s teenage years and the town that helped shape him.
“The incredible writing team and talented Bates Motel cast has made this series one of the most compelling original dramas on television,” said A&E EVP and GM David McKillop in a statement.
“The brilliant twists and turns of the past two seasons keep its loyal fan base coming back for more. We are so proud of the show.”
Production on Season three will begin this autumn. Season two of Bates Motel continues on Wednesdays on Universal.
