DC Comics has unveiled its Batman 75th anniversary logo – just three days before the caped crusader’s milestone anniversary.

Plans to celebrate Bill Finger and Bob Kane's legendary superhero have also been announced. Batman Day will fall on July 23, and will feature celebrations at retailers and libraries across the USA, including a free Batman comic.

DC will also be bringing the Cape/Cowl/Create exhibit to San Diego Comic-Con, with "favourite contemporary artists" creating their own interpretations of Batman's often-tweeked but unmistakable costume.

The weekly Batman: Eternal comic, two animated shorts by Bruce Timm and Darwyn Cooke and the Gotham TV show pilot will also arrive over the coming months as part of the celebrations.

“Batman is an incredibly important property with multi-generational appeal across all of the Studio's businesses, and we're proud to celebrate this milestone anniversary,” said Warner Bros Entertainment CEO Kevin Tsujihara.

“From billion-dollar blockbuster films to TV, home entertainment, video games and consumer products, The Dark Knight continues to resonate with audiences worldwide and rightfully deserves his place as a global pop culture icon for the ages.”

Batman first appeared in Detective Comics No. 27 on March 30, 1939.
