Paddy Considine will star in two new The Suspicions of Mr Whicher films for UK television broadcaster ITV.
The network has ordered two new original TV movies, entitled Beyond the Pale and 'Til Death Do Us Part, based on the book by Kate Summerscale.
Considine will reprise the role of the eponymous detective and the first film will set Whicher investigating threats made against the son of a powerful politician, while the second sees a case of divorce and adultery spin out into something far more complex.
Award-winning playwright Helen Edmundson will script both films, which follow on from 2011's The Suspicions of Mr Whicher and its 2013 follow-up The Murder In Angel Lane.
“We're delighted with the new Whicher scripts from Helen Edmundson,” said ITV's Director of Drama, Steve November.
“Paddy Considine is an extraordinary actor who brilliantly portrays Whicher's complexities, depth and vulnerability.”
Previously, Considine expressed a desire to return to the role. “If everybody feels compelled to do it, I'd do it,” he said, adding that any new film would need “a good story - it's got to be a new landscape and it's got to open up for Whicher a little bit more. That would be the challenge.”
