Rihanna is set to be recognised for her influence on fashion when she receives the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
She follows in the footsteps of past winners Lady Gaga, Kate Moss and Iman, who were all chosen as “an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage”
The Barbadian popstar will be honoured with the prize at the annual ceremony on June 2, which will take place at Lincoln Centre's Alice Tully Hall in New York.
Her style may polarise opinions in the fashion world, but there's no doubting her influence on trends, and her collaboration with high street giant River Island on her own collections have been a huge success.
Steven Kolb, CEO of CFDA said: “We are proud to present Rihanna with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award for her impact on the industry as fashion’s most exciting ambassador in recent memory.”
