Rhys Meyers considered entering priesthood

Meyers: "I felt I was quite isolated"

Ever wonder what celebrities would be doing if they weren't famous? Well, it looks like Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers might have become a priest.

The 36-year-old star of The Tudors, who is set to play the sinister Father Gaunt in the silver screen adaptation of Sebastian Barry’s popular novel The Secret Scripture, says that he considered joining the priesthood.

Speaking to The London Evening Standard, Jonathan said: "I felt I was quite isolated, and I think that's what attracted me. The monastic lifestyle is very isolated. But actually I wasn't suited to priesthood at all. It would have driven me mad."

Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave are also reported to be in negotiations to star in the big-budget production of The Secret Scripture filming of which begins in June.
