Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin has said there is a possibility that the story could at some point be headed to the big screen.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter following Tuesday’s New York premiere of the fourth season of the hugely popular HBO drama series the writer said the prospect is being activity discussed.

He said “it all depends on how long the main series runs.” He continued “Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eights? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger. It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know.”

He also said another big-screen possibility being discussed is one based on Tales of Dunk and Egg which is a series of three prequel novellas written by him about characters who lives in Westeros 90 years before the stars of the Game of Thrones series.
